That settles it.

Some of you were wondering what the NBA may have to do IF the league officials somehow incorrectly overturned Paul Pierce's potential game-tying three in Game 6 vs. the Atlanta Hawks last Friday. Fortunately, for the officials, that was a correct overturned three. From the NBA Officiating Last Two Minute Report from Game 6:

After communicating with the Replay Center, the ruling on the court that Pierce's (WAS) successful three-point field was released before time expired was overturned.

Considering the potential consequences for an incorrect call with the game and series on the line, this call had to be right from the beginning. And that is a good thing. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel any better about the series loss, but I'm glad to see the transparency the NBA is showing with these official two-minute reports.

WASHINGTON - Paul Pierce sat sprawled out on his chair in the corner of the Wizards locker room, his uniform still on and perhaps still as devastated and overwhelmed by the night’s events as anyone in the building

In a career filled with big games and big shots, it appeared Pierce had just hit one of the toughest and clutchest shots of his career; a one foot, off-balance, contested prayer at the buzzer that tied the game at 94 and forced overtime. Once again, Paul Pierce had defied the odds and rescued his team with an improbable shot that sent the Verizon Center crowd went into a frenzy...until the replay review.

In a brief (by NBA replay standards) time, the referees emerged and waved their arms to call off the shot, ending the game and the Wizards' season.

"It was a little late," Randy Wittman would say after the game. "I thought it was good when he made it," Wittman said, echoing the feelings of the 18,000 in attendance. Wittman began preparing for how the Wizards would attack the Hawks in overtime. "Then when you hear the crowd moan, that's not a good sign."

For most of the game it didn't look like the Wizards would be able to generate any late drama. They found themselves down by as much as 15 points in the third quarter, looking like they might go the same way as Chicago did in getting blown out in their closeout game at home against Cleveland. But the Wizards clawed their way back into the lead late in the fourth, before faulty offensive execution and missed defensive assignments gave Atlanta the opportunity to regain the lead for good.

It was a roller coaster series to end a roller coaster season. From the highs of a 29-13 start to the struggles of pretty much the rest of the season, the Wizards ran the gamut of emotions in 2014-2015. The playoffs were no different, as the Wizards experienced euphoria after emphatically sweeping the Toronto Raptors and winning the first game on the road against Atlanta, and the disappointment of a John Wall broken wrist that had them at a disadvantage for the rest of the series.

Wittman reflected on the progress his team made after the game. He said "I am really proud of our guys. The heart they showed this year, taking this step again and ending up basically where we were last year. We had three 1 possession games in this series. We won one and they won two of them."

While Wittman tried to take the long view of how far this team had come and what it accomplished, Bradley Beal and John Wall couldn’t help but talk about the opportunity they had missed. For the second straight season, the Wizards had a chance to upset the number one seed, only to see the dream die on their home floor.

A visibly dejected Bradley Beal said after the game "It’s probably every synonym for sad you can think of, especially when we had such high goals." For someone whose play had done so much to keep the Wizards in series, it was hard to accept defeat after the game. "We have to tip our hats off to Atlanta, they're a great team, but it's definitely heartbreaking because this is two years in a row. You always want to continue to get better, and not worse than you were last year."

John Wall when asked about playing this Hawks team, voiced his respect for the team but clearly thought this was a series that the Wizards could have won: "We felt the same as we felt last year, we let games slip away. If you look at Game 5, they won it by one second. You look at tonight, we came back and took the lead."

With the season over, questions remain for the future of the team. The biggest on is the future of Paul Pierce. Pierce, who a short time ago seemed to be hinting he would be around for another season or two, sounded like someone very unsure of whether he would return next season. "I don't even know if I am going to play basketball anymore," Pierce said, emphasizing the cumulative toll of seventeen years of basketball on someone who is not one of the oldest players in the league.

"There is a lot that I have to talk to my family about and just figure out from there but I have loved my time here in Washington and there is a lot to think about right now."

There is a lot for the Wizards brass to think about as well. When asked if the playoffs had shown what they needed to do to be better offensively next year, Randy Wittman didn’t hesitate to answer affirmatively: "We know what we have to do and the pieces we have to add. Brad and John are going to be here a long time. We have to realize the strengths and capabilities that they bring and put the players around them that allows us to play the way we played in the series with Toronto and Atlanta."

Whether they can add talent and develop what they already have to take that next step remains to be seen, but Wittman sounded optimistic: "We just have to keep knocking on that door. We are going to knock it down."

The House of Guards explained how tough losing in the second round of the playoffs is like for the second straight year.

One of the toughest things players on a losing team have to do in an elimination game is to speak with the media. John Wall and Bradley Beal did just that as they spoke with the press after Friday's Game 6 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The video is embedded above, or click here to watch from Monumental Network.

Here are some tidbits of what they said:

Both felt that the Wizards didn't make progress from last season overall because of the result: A second consecutive loss in the second round. I think he is being a bit harsh on himself, but the Wizards made progress overall, which we'll talk more about over the next several days. Wall was proud of how the Wizards played in the three games that he sat out, and that also made his decision to come back and play a bit easier.

Wall answered a question about whether the Wizards learned anything from the Hawks in the playoffs that they didn't know in the regular season. He said that there wasn't anything different from what he saw before.

Beal and Wall answered a question about having a chance to play alongside a veteran star like Paul Pierce. Both gave him credit for the confidence he instilled in them, as well as the example he set in practice. Beal also credited Pierce for teaching him to trash talk better.

Toward the end of the interview, Beal answered a question in regards to Marcin Gortat, who suffered flu-like symptoms before the game.

In short, both Wall and Beal were taking this loss pretty hard, and you can definitely see it from their body language. There certainly will be some changes in the offseason around them, but overall, both players improved from last season. With the House of Guards leading the way in D.C., the future is bright indeed.

If you want to see Randy Wittman's postgame presser, click here. He is also pretty optimistic about the future too.

Congratulations to TheBackCourt who commented 133 times! DCrez and Emmet O'Neal also commented over 90 times each.

What were the top three rec'ed comments of the night?

Our third and second most rec'ed comments were by Hawks fans.

First, lnott1212 had the third most rec'ed comments (16) by giving props to the Wizards for putting almost every game to the brink in this series:

At second place with 17 recs, Mr. Ice said the same thing while giving props to John Wall and Paul Pierce:

At number one with 29 rec's, elliotlevy2 showed us what the future holds. And no, KD's not part of it:

Thanks for being part of our roll calls over the past month. We hope to have better times next season!

The Washington Wizards' season ended with life's cruelest reminder: Time catches up with everyone.

Time caught up with Paul Pierce, whose game-tying three pointer came just a split second after the final horn.

Time caught up with John Wall, who ran out of time to make a difference in this series after his hand cost him half of the series.

Time caught up with Nene, who showed throughout the series he just isn't fast enough to keep up with the modern NBA big man, who can jump higher, run faster and stretch the floor better.

Time caught up with Marcin Gortat, who played 12 minutes and 19 seconds in an elimination game. UPDATE: As it turns out, Gortat had food poisoning, which certainly makes his Game 6 performance and lack of playing time more understandable.

Time caught up with Kevin Seraphin, who shocked everyone by keeping the Wizards in the game early when the starters stumbled out of the blocks, but couldn't sustain that level of performance forever.

Time caught up with Bradley Beal, who scored 29 and helped limit Kyle Korver to 2 points, but couldn't get the timing right on shots that could have turned the momentum in the game sooner.

Time caught up with the rest of the Wizards' bench, who just couldn't hang with Hawks' bench.

And of course, time caught up with Randy Wittman, who ran out of ways to slow down Atlanta's attack and generate enough offense to force a Game 7.

There will be plenty to discuss in the coming days and months about where the Wizards go from here. How will the Wizards inject youth into their aging frontcourt? How do the Wizards unleash the best of what we saw from John Wall, Bradley Beal and Otto Porter next season? Is it time to make a major shakeup? We don't have the answer to any of these questions just yet, but starting now, we'll have plenty of time to discuss where to go from here.

Great season folks.

Congratulations to the Atlanta Hawks for a great and competitive second-round series. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough to force a Game 7 tonight.

There will be a time to talk about what the Wizards should do this summer. But for now, it was a great season folks. Hopefully, things will be better next year.
