Kevin Durant marks his return to D.C. tonight as his current team faces his hometown team. His mom says he is aware of the #KD2DC chatter, as we take a look at how a recent spike in turnovers have hindered the Wizards.

1. #KD2DC in full effect, just ask his mom

"He hears the talk. And we all hear it. But he doesn’t allow himself to be overly concerned with that, because the time is not now for … him to make that decision."

That's all we really needed to read, wasn't it? When the time comes, he will make his return home. That's obviously what Wanda Pratt, Kevin Durant's mom, was getting at during her interview with NBC 4'S Jason Pugh. Pratt also dropped this gem of a quote later in the interview when talking about how many friends and family will be able to attend each of Durant's games against the Wizards in the DMV:

"In the beginning it was really crazy and a little overwhelming," she said. "But now our family and friends know that he can't take everybody to the game, so we kind of rotate it so that everyone can kind of get a glimpse of him playing here in D.C. So we kind of do a lottery, so to speak."

That was initially a problem for Durant earlier in his career and he definitely seemed overwhelmed about the whole process at that time. They've now got things under wraps and controlled. That can only mean Durant is calmer, more relaxed about the situation, and will be able to focus solely on playing games for the Wizards once he is able to get 41 games per season in D.C. for the final ten years of his career.

2. Paul Pierce and the Wizards need to stop turning the ball over

If there was a problem during Monday's MLK Day game annihilation of the Philadelphia 76ers, it was the team's 22 turnovers that they committed. The Wizards are averaging more turnovers in January than they have in any month this season and Pierce, in particular, is averaging more than double the turnovers per 100 possessions (14.7) than he averaged in the previous month (7.6).

The Oklahoma City Thunder are not a forgiving team. They cause turnovers and pounce on any self-created mistakes. Tonight will be a big test to see if the increase in turnovers are just a hiccup or a serious problem.

3. Midseason report card

They say if you can survive the doldrums of a lifeless Washington franchise, you can survive anything. Well Wizards fans say that, at least. So when a Wizards team hits the midseason point and has more wins than they often secure for an entire season, one must be ecstatic. That's generally how us fans of a 29-13 Wizards team feel, though our passion for a real winner in D.C. and history of struggles knows no success can be taken for granted and one loss amongst a bushel of victories is magnified and worried about, with fears of that loss repeating like Groundhog Day.

But, as I mentioned, a 29-13 record should be appreciated tremendously. The Wizards are playing the best basketball this city has seen in decades. It's time for the midseason grades.

4. David Adkins is more than just a connection to Durant

Newly-hired assistant coach Adkins was immediately thought of among Wizards fans as the coach who has worked with Durant in the past and will be the linchpin to helping the Wizards secure the Maryland native when he becomes a free agent in two years. But there's much more to Adkins than just his connection to the NBA's reigning MVP. He is a tireless worker who will go to any lengths to make his players great. Randy Wittman noticed it immediately upon interviewing Adkins, and Wizards players have grown accustomed to his never-ending desire to get the best from them.

5. Wizards vs. Thunder on ESPN tonight

This is it, folks. Durant will return home for the only time this season tonight, as his Thunder (21-20) face the Wizards (29-13) in a much-anticipated nationally televised event. If you haven't watched the Thunder this season, don't let their record fool you. This team is dangerous now that Durant and Russell Westbrook are back from injury and in full form. As I mentioned before, they take advantage of miscues and cause tons of them as well. Like the Wizards, you don't want this team getting out and running against yours.

Tip off is set for 8 p.m. at the Verizon Center. You can watch on ESPN and/or Comcast SportsNet. You can also listen to the #RadioParty on 99.1 WNEW as always.

As the buzz around Kevin Durant joining the Wizards builds, there are some that question whether or not all the attention could wind up driving him away from Washington in free agency. Here's why you shouldn't be worried.

As we all prepare for Kevin Durant's big homecoming game against the Wizards on Wednesday, there has been a lot of discussion on the effect that the Durant to the Wizards buzz has had on both parties. Specifically, whether or not all the talk about Durant joining Washington could become negative enough that it pushes Durant away.

Dan Steinberg tackled the issue head on in his piece on hype surrounding Wednesday's big game.

Indeed, Durant has been asked about coming home repeatedly in recent years - local kids as young as 4 have popped the question, he told USA Today, and his mom was asked the question on WRC this week. Durant usually manages to blandly deflect the issue, but not blandly enough to prevent more headlines and hashtags. Which is why some wonder if the current environment in Washington - the excitement and expectations - might do more harm than good.

"I'm kind of on the fence about it really," said Tim Mason, who recently photographed a fan in a Durant Wizards jersey roaming Verizon Center. "I feel like the hype about it may be something that would push him away from here."

"Sometimes you wonder, is D.C. going overboard in their recruiting of him, which might ultimately turn him off?" asked Kyle Weidie, the founder and editor of Wizards site Truth About It. "With it being so far down the road, and with how fast things can change in the NBA and in pro sports, a lot of it just seems disingenuous and cheap ... sort of creating an unnecessary frenzy."

As one who scours Twitter, Facebook and this site's comments for fun, I can vouch Weidie and Mason aren't the only two people in the world who feel this way about recruiting Kevin Durant. There are plenty of people out there worried all the talk will drive him away. If I had a nickel for every time someone suggested that maybe the Durant hype was getting out of hand, I'd be on the verge of a really great business model.

And let's be clear, the fear of ruining the chance to sign Kevin Durant is an understandable concern. Opportunities to sign an MVP as he reaches his peak don't come around often. Those opportunities are even rarer for teams that aren't in a mega media market and lack a long history of success. The Wizards can't afford to squander this chance by looking too desperate.

The good news is, there's no way the Washington Wizards, or their fans, will mess up recruiting Kevin Durant by wanting him too much. Here's why:

1. Kevin Durant isn't looking to be wanted

When Kevin Durant enters free agency in 2016, he has two choices: He can stay in Oklahoma City and get more guaranteed money from the Thunder, who can offer him higher raises than other teams in his new deal. Or, he can decide to take less money to come to Washington and be part of something "bigger than basketball" and possibly enter a better basketball situation like LeBron James did when he spurned the Heat's offer to go back home to Cleveland.

If Durant chooses to stay in Oklahoma, he'll have plenty of financial reasons to do so that will factor into his decision far more than whatever frenzy Durant has to deal with until the summer of 2016. If he's truly willing to leave that money on the table to make a run with the Wizards, what can anyone say that would drive him away?

2. There are things more annoying than being annoyed

Put yourself in Kevin Durant's shoes. Which would annoy you more?

Putting up with Wizards rumors for two years longer than you should have to, or putting up with Kendrick Perkins for two years longer than you have to?

Having a four year old ask you if you're going to the Wizards, or watching the team you play for use a first round draft pick specifically on a player that they could keep in the D-League for the entire season?

Dealing with the Durant to the Wizards frenzy for the next two years, or dealing with Dion Waiters for the next two years?

Watching talking heads debate whether you'd do better in Oklahoma City or Washington, or watching your team trade away James Harden because they didn't want to pay the luxury tax?

But hey, that's none of our business.

All we know is that if Kevin Durant does come to D.C., however frustrating the next two years might be, the years that follow will be well worth the struggle. Just look at how excited the fans were at this watching party hosted by Come Home KD and Wiz Happy Hour when the Wizards played the Thunder in Oklahoma City last month. If fans can get that excited just to start envisioning what it would be like to have Durant with the Wizards, think how much more fun it could be in two years.

Today's Wake-Up Call takes a look at the Wizards getting ready for their big game against the Thunder on Wednesday, and we check in on some former Wizards.

1. Kevin Durant is coming to town

Wednesday night, the Thunder make their annual visit to the Verizon Center. Obviously, some people will be focused on recruiting a certain someone, but fans should be treated to an exciting game as well. The last two games between the Wizards and Thunder in Oklahoma City have come down to the closing minutes, and the Wizards have done exceptionally well against Durant at the Verizon Center.

As Nick Bilka pointed out, Durant's only two victories at the Verizon Center came while teamed up with Eric Maynor. The results speak for themselves.

2. Let's check in and see how Andray Blatche is doing over in China

But seriously, that level of defense in the first half? Players try harder in the Celebrity Game.

3. Chris Singleton to the D-League?

Chris Singleton has been looking for a gig since the Pacers decided to waive him at the end of training camp this season. According to D-League Digest, that next opportunity might come in the D-League.

Nice to see Singleton still trying to pursue a spot on an NBA roster, rather than go for the easy cash grab overseas.

4. How's Glen Rice Jr. doing in the D-League?

Glen Rice Jr. didn't waste much time getting back into the flow of things with his old squad. He had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in 23 minutes in his first game back. He topped it on Saturday, going for 22 points on 9-13 shooting, 5 rebounds and 2 assists in the Vipers' 160-153 win over the Reno Bighorns. And for those of you wondering, no, that game didn't go into overtime.

Steve Buckhantz, Phil Chenier and Chris Miller of CSN Washington talked about how Wednesday's Wizards-Thunder game factors into trying to lure Kevin Durant to Washington to play for the Wizards.

The Washington Wizards host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night at the Verizon Center. It's the first time Kevin Durant has traveled to the Verizon Center since the Durant to the Wizards hype went viral over the summer.

As the game has gotten closer and closer, the hype keeps growing. The Twitter buzz around Wednesday's game is rising. Customized Kevin Durant Wizard jerseys are appearing more often at the Verizon Center. And Durant himself is getting more squirrely online.

On Monday, CSN Washington announcers Steve Buckhantz and Phil Chenier got in on the action during the closing minutes of the Wizards' blowout win over the 76ers. Here's what they had to say.

Buckhantz: You're gonna see the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.

Chenier: Lot of excitement there. Washington feels they owe them one.

Buckhantz: Yep. The Wizards had two leads in that OKC game out West by 8 points each. But Kevin Durant does what he does best late in the game, and that was it.

Chenier: Better than anyone in this league.

Buchantz: So that'll be a nice homecoming. It'll be interesting to see how many of the fans turn out with KD2DC shirts, and other memorabilia.

Chenier: I haven't seen those shirts.

Buckhantz: Well I've seen the signs, I haven't seen if they have any shirts yet, I'll get to work on that, Phil.

Chenier: I'm sure you will. [Both chuckle]

For a short while, they went back to discussing the game and went to commercial. When the broadcast came back, Buckhantz and Chenier resumed their discussion while Otto Porter took some free throws.

Buckantz: I'm told by one of our fans, one our viewers, Scott B @InsideTheBlock that the KD2DC shirts very much exist. They're out there.

Chenier: OK.

Buckhantz: So let's see how many are displayed Wednesday night here.We talked about this before, in order for Kevin Durant to come here, it's not just going to be "Hey, I want to go home, I want to play at home, or I like the Redskins and I want to go back. This Wizards team has to be on the rise. They have to be playing well for him to consider coming here and possibly adding to this group to make them a contender. They certainly are off on the right foot this year.

Chenier: Yeah.

Buckhantz: For more on OKC, let's check in with Chris Miller. Chris, your thoughts:

Chris Miller: Well, Buck and Phil, this team was a lot different than the one that was without Westbrook for a little bit, a little bit without Durant. They've added some pieces, some firepower off that bench with Dion Waiters. And the question that I have for both of you guys is, going into this game Wednesday, is from a fan's perspective: How do you handle Kevin Durant? Normally, he gets some cheers here, but this could be used as a recruiting tool also. You don't want to boo him too much, do you cheer him like "We love you, we want you to come here in two years" or is it just "You're from here, we're just glad you're here, but we want the Wizards to win."

Buckhantz: To be truthful Chris, I don't think anybody's going to boo him.

Chenier: I can't imagine that.

Buckhantz: They love him here.

Chenier: Because he's from here, but how about because he's one of the best players this game has seen.

Buckhantz: Yeah!

Chenier: And fans here, I always thought, really appreciate talent, good basketball. It made me reflect back on the time I got traded to Indiana and Gervin came in. Of course, Indiana loves their basketball there. And Gervin got off to one of those starts, finished with 54, 55 points and I mean, they gave him a standing ovation. You appreciate that kind of excellence.

Not to say that I hope he gets 55.

Buchantz: Or takes over, like he did in Oklahoma City, but he does that all the time so it wouldn't be surprising.

Yeah Chris, I think there will be cheers for him. There will be ovations. There will be urging by the fans, because you're right, it will be a bit of recruiting visit, if you will. But he knows how people here feel about him.

Chenier: That's so far down the road.

Buckhantz: Yes it is. A long way.

Chenier: You want to be prepared for, just in case. But I mean, he knows what basketball is like in this area.

But they weren't done! After Kris Humphries missed three straight free throws, they closed their discussion a moment later:

Chenier: Still thinking about those KD2DC shirts.

Buckhantz: You need to get a couple of those.

Chenier: Extra large, if you're wondering.
