John Wall and the Wizards continue to dominate Orlando Magic and win their eleventh straight on New Years Day.

WASHINGTON—The last time the Washington Wizards lost to the Orlando Magic was March 29, 2013 inside the Amway Center. Ever since the departure of the Magic's old franchise face Dwight Howard, the Wizards of the John Wall era have owned the Magic both in Orlando and in Washington.

Tobias Harris said "They know us. We know what they like to do," at shootaround before the game. Scott Skiles, even though he had only coached the Magic twice against the Wizards, offered up an even better interpretation of the Wizards dominant play vs. Orlando, "We've had decent control over a couple of those games. And, then all of a sudden, it becomes a John Wall layup drill."

Coming into Friday's game, Wall has been dealing with a series of leg injuries from his ankle to his knee, and now a foot sprain similar to the one from his rookie season, which may have taken a toll on him in the beginning minutes of the first half, where he only had 2 points and 1 assist before motioning to Wittman to pull him out and allowing Ramon Sessions and Otto Porter to run the show in his absence.

Wall started to get things clicking in the second and third quarters, before Wall took over in the fourth quarter, taking over the scoring load and setting up several plays for Kris Humphries. Wall and Humphries scored 23 of the Wizards' 31 points in the fourth, as Washington pulled away in a game that was tied to start the final frame and opened the New Year with a standing ovation from the home crowd.

"When you compete and force teams to have turnovers, it gets us the opportunity to get open looks, get to the free throw line and get fast breaks. That's the way we want to play." said Wall when asked about six Wizards who scored in double figures against the Magic. It could have easily been eight Wizards players, had Kelly Oubre not missed two alley-oop passes from Wall and if Dudley connected on 2-5 from three instead of 1-5.

John Wall answered questions from the media in a vintage Washington Wizards Mitchell & Ness snapback with the 2001 All-Star emblem on the side and a custom gold and black brim. Fittingly, on New Years Eve in 2001, Michael Jordan scored 45 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had 7 assists in a Wizards win over the New Jersey Nets.

A hobbled John Wall could never put up those type of numbers, but he still put up impressive numbers in the win, racking up 24 points, 13 assists, 4 boards, 2 steals and 1 block. He said after the game he didn't know why the Wizards have been able to win 11 straight.

Victor Oladipo believes it may have been a different story one of intimidation, maybe. "It's frustrating, but that's the way basketball is. There's always that one team that seems to have your number."

Sometimes, when you're the best player on the court and you that you're the best player on the court, you can be your own worst enemy. In the first five minutes of Friday's game, Wall wasn't quite himself as he tried to figure out how to exploit his mismatch against the Magic, and was the first player Randy Wittman subbed out in the first quarter.

But when Wall re-entered the game, it was pretty clear he had made the right mental adjustments to take advantage of the Magic, and from that point, he was a handful. Wall has had other 20 & 10 performance this season, and he's had better performances if you're just looking at total output, but this was probably Wall's best game at just asserting his dominance over a game in all aspects.

He denied Victor Oladipo's up-and-under move, he blew past people in transition, he blew past people in half-court, he crossed people up, and put the game away with this beautiful drive to draw a goaltending call from Aaron Gordon:

I'm not sure what John Wall's New Year's Resolution was, but hopefully he sticks to it.

Let's review a highlight-filled Friday.

The Wizards won 103-91 over the Magic on New Year's Day Friday. John Wall as AMAZING as he scored 24 points and dished 13 assists. Otto Porter added 20 points and 11 rebounds while Marcin Gortat scored 10 points and grabbed 14 more rebounds. The Magic were led by Victor Oladipo who scored 20 points and dished five assists off the bench.

Let's get to some links, roll call, food specials, and pancakes.

Drew Gooden returned to action on Friday where he played four minutes and committed four fouls. However, he re-injured his calf and left in the third quarter. Gooden will receive an MRI on Saturday, according to Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post. Fortunately, the man himself is optimistic about things:

"I don’t think it’s back to square one," Gooden said. "But I don’t know. We’ll know see what happens with the MRI tomorrow. But it’s nowhere near as bad as square one, though."

On a brighter note, we need to share some highlights, most notably with John Wall. In the first half, he performed a hesitation dribble which led to a nice dunk in traffic. In the closing minutes of the game, he crossed over Evan Fournier and made a subsequent jump shot.

Pancake Spotlight: Blini

The blini is from Russia. They are thinner than their American buttermilk counterparts and not unlike crepes. You can eat them with sweet fillings or sour cream.

Blini's are especially popular during Maslenitsa, which is during the last week before the Great Lent, a major fasting period in the Eastern Orthodox Church. In 2016, Maslenitsa will be on February 16 to 22.

Another cool thing about Maslenitsa: It is also known as Crepe Week, a fitting name given the title of this section.

Below is a recipe via AllasYummyFood's YouTube channel so you can make it during Maslenitsa, or any time you want.

Because the highlight video of his dunk in the first half wasn't all he did on New Year's Day.

MAN! John Wall had a great game on New Year's Day Friday when he scored 24 points and dished 13 assists in a 103-91 win over the Orlando Magic. He made a couple beautiful dunks in the first half which got the Verizon Center crowd on its feet.

But that's not all he had in store.

The Wizards pretty much had the game in hand in the fourth quarter. But with less than 3:30 left in the game, Wall performed a crossover that caused his defender, Evan Fournier to lose balance for a split moment.

At that time, Wall pulled up for a jump shot ... and swish! The pull-up jump shot is really becoming a strength for him in the last few seasons. The video of the play is embedded above via NBAClip's YouTube channel.

If you want more takes of this move, here's one.

The Wizards are undefeated in 2016!

The Wizards continued their dominance against the Magic, winning at the Verizon Center on New Year's Day. The Magic jumped out to an early lead as the Wizards struggled to score against Scott Skiles defensive-minded squad. But the Wizards ramped up their own defensive pressure, getting 12 fast break points in the first quarter alone. The Wizards ended the first half up 24-21.

In the third quarter, the Wizards quickly pushed the lead to 12, but excellent offensive execution from the Magic killed the Wizards’ transition scoring opportunities. The game was tied going into the fourth quarter.

The game stayed close until about the 5:30 mark in the quarter, when a three from Kris Humphries and a scoring outburst from John Wall (nine points in the final five minutes) broke the game open and the Wizards won, 103-91.

Wall also had 13 assists.

Otto Porter was all over the floor, grabbing 11 rebounds and 4 steals in addition to his 20 points. He also got this bucket to seal the game:

Drew Gooden returns, only to get hurt again

Gooden had missed the last 16 straight games with a calf injury. He returned tonight, picking up four fouls in four minutes of play. He appeared to re-injure his calf in the second quarter, and the Wizards quickly announced that he was out for the rest of the game.

The Wizards win the rebounding battle

Rebounding has been an issue for the Wizards this season, but they out-rebounded the Magic 46-39. This was largely due to a big game on the boards for Gortat, who had 14, and Porter, who had 11. Kelly Oubre and Ramon Sessions also chipped in 5 each.

The Wizards and Magic have started their seasons on opposite sides of the expectation spectrum. After two straight playoff runs, the Wizards are 11th in the Eastern Conference standings. Orlando, on the other hand, comes into Friday's game as the 5th best team in the East, after missing the playoffs for the last three years as they've rebuilt in the post-Dwight Howard era.

Despite their reversal in fortunes, the Wizards have still won both their meetings against the Magic this season. They won the season opener in Orlando thanks to a monster game from John Wall. They won the second meeting in Washington thanks to Kris Humphries, who went 5-5 from beyond the arc on the way to a 23 point performance.

A win tonight would go a long way to support the idea the Wizards still have what it takes to beat a playoff-level team on a consistent basis. If nothing else, it would help the Wizards keep their streak alive against the Magic. They've won 10 straight against Orlando.

Most likely Wizards Killer

Mario Hezonja is shooting 41.7 percent from beyond the arc as a rookie. More importantly, he's 5-9 against the Wizards. He's a talented shooter, he has a quick trigger, and odds are he'll get a high quantity and quality of looks.
