On Monday, the WNBA announced that Washington Mystics center Tina Charles was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played in Week 4 of the 2021 regular season.

In three games, Charles averaged 21.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game to lead Washington to a 2-1 record last week. The Mystics have a 4-6 record and are 10th in the league standings.
The Mystics have not played well this season. They have faced significant setbacks with injuries due to Alysha Clark suffering a season-ending foot injury before training camp and Elena Delle Donne has still yet to return after suffering a back injury in the 2019 WNBA Finals.
Other players have regressed significantly. Natasha Cloud and Leilani Mitchell are shooting around 30 percent from the floor which is holding them back.
Despite the Mystics’ early season issues, Charles is averaging 24.0 points and 8.4 rebounds per game which leads the WNBA. Without Charles’ performance this season, the Mystics’ start would have been rougher.
