On Friday, the WNBA announced that Washington Mystics center Tina Charles was named to the All-WNBA Second Team for the 2021 season.
Charles averaged a career-high 23.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game for Washington, which led the league. For much of the 2021 season, Charles was on pace to have the highest scoring season in WNBA history, but her averages dipped in the post Olympic break.
2021 wasn’t just a great season for Charles on the Mystics, at least individually. She was also part of the USA Basketball women’s national team for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan where she won a gold medal. And as a film producer, she saw the premier of her short film, ““Game Changer” last June at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
It is unfortunate that despite Charles’ season in Washington, the Mystics missed the playoffs. But regardless, 2021 was an excellent season for Charles. Congratulations Tina!
