Mystics announce that 2020 season ticket payments will be rolled into 2021

New, comment

This is not a surprise given the coronavirus pandemic.

On Wednesday, the Washington Mystics announced that all 2020 WNBA season ticket credits will be rolled over into 2021. In exchange, the team will offer a credit of 10 percent that can be applied to single game tickets for the Mystics, Washington Wizards and/or Capital City Go-Go. In addition, refunds are available.

The announcement came in an email to season ticket holders. And so you know, I am a season ticket holder.

This news is not a surprise. The coronavirus pandemic has effectively ended live sports in the United States since March, though the league is reportedly trying to start a 22-game season on July 24 at IMG Academy in Florida.

The Washington Wizards also offered a similar credit for unplayed 2019-20 NBA season games, which will be rolled over into the 2020-21 season in May.

It is truly a bummer that we won’t be able to see the Mystics build on the increased fan presence and momentum they built over the last three years when Elena Delle Donne requested a trade to come here. That said, the Mystics are still one of the top teams in the WNBA on paper this year. It won’t be easy, but it also won’t be surprising to see them get their second silver trophy when everything is all said and done.

Finally, here is a copy of the letter, with personal information removed:

[Mystics Fan],

Thank you for your patience and support through the postponement to the start of our season. We want you to know that we are just as eager as you are to see tip-off of the 2020 WNBA season and watch our Washington Mystics defend their 2019 Championship. The WNBA continues to monitor the situation and research all possible scenarios for beginning the season as soon as it is safe to do so.

As the league continues to explore a variety of scenarios, should the WNBA have a 2020 season, it is highly likely that games will be without fans. As such, we’d like to offer you, our most loyal fans, an opportunity to roll over your funds from the 2020 season as a credit towards your membership for the 2021 season, guaranteeing your same seat locations and locking in your membership at our 2020 pricing.

In addition to guaranteeing your seats for next season while locking in this season’s pricing, we’d also like to extend to you a 10% bonus credit that can be used for additional single game tickets or group tickets for the 2021 Mystics season. You will also be able to use this credit for single game tickets or group tickets for the Washington Wizards or the Capital City Go-Go, both part of our Monumental Basketball family. This bonus would be added to your account provided that you rollover your 2020 seats to the 2021 season.

Should you opt to roll over your funds to the 2021 season, you would receive a limited edition 2020 Elena Delle Donne Bobblehead commemorating her 2019 MVP season, presented to you in May 2021. (One per account).

No action is needed on your part to take advantage of this offer. Your rollover will be automatically converted on June 15, 2020. Payments for your remaining balances would commence again in January 2021.

We’d also like to offer you the opportunity to pay off the remaining balance on your account by July 15, 2020 to qualify for two additional offers we’re extending to our Season Ticket Members.

Accounts that pay their remaining balance for the 2020 Membership by July 15, 2020 and elect to roll that entire amount over to 2021 will be enrolled in an exclusive Virtual 2020 Club 52 Membership.

Your Virtual 2020 Club 52 membership would include:

* Opportunity to attend virtual events including a Virtual Chalk Talk event, Virtual Meet-The-Team event, Virtual Coach’s Dinner event

* A 2019 Washington Mystics Championship Commemorative book, celebrating the team’s historic season

* A 2020 ‘Cloud 9’ Natasha Cloud Bobblehead (one per account) in September 2020

* A 20% discount to our Mystics online team store, valid through October 2020

If you are interested in this additional offer, please contact your Washington Mystics service representative by phone or via email to set up a time to talk to enroll in this unique additional program.

If a credit is not the best option for you, you may also request a refund for any 2020 membership credit by contacting your Washington Mystics service representative. You can also reach our team at 877-DC-HOOP1 (877-324-6671) or ticketsales AT washingtonmystics DOT com.

Thank you for your support as a Club 52 Washington Mystics season ticket member. We hope that you and those close to you remain safe and healthy. We cannot wait to welcome you back to Entertainment & Sports Arena in the near future! And we look forward to cheering on our Washington Mystics from afar and continuing to engage virtually with you, our most loyal fans.
