The Washington Mystics have been battling the Connecticut Sun for the top seed in the 2019 WNBA Playoffs. But on Friday evening, Connecticut lost to the Chicago Sky 109-104 in overtime.

With the Sun loss, the Mystics are officially the top seed in the playoffs. I get that regular season championships mean little in American sports. But for a team that has struggled to be relevant in its own league for most of its history, the Mystics have truly turned a corner over the past several seasons under Mike Thibault’s leadership.

CONGRATULATIONS WASHINGTON MYSTICS!!!!
