The Washington Mystics won’t be advancing to the WNBA Finals. Yet. They were embarrassed in a 92-75 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday afternoon.
Liz Cambage led the Aces with a 28 point performance on 12-of-15 shooting. A’ja Wilson added 21 points.
For the Mystics, Emma Meesseman was held to 6 points on 3-of-8 shooting. She didn’t even attempt a free throw. Las Vegas was able to just shut down Washington tonight.
Elena Delle Donne scored 22 to lead Washington but shot just 2-of-8 from the three point line. Kristi Toliver added 14 points off the bench and shot 4-of-7 frpom three, but she was still having trouble defending Las Vegas point guard Kelsey Plum.
The Mystics actually started this game with a 24-23 lead after the first quarter. However, Washington was outrebounded 40-28 and allowed Las Vegas to score 20 off of second chance points.
Bottom line, the Aces’ frontcourt outplayed the Mystics’ with defense, rebounding and physical basketball. Though Washington is great at three-point shooting and “Everybody Eats” basketball, they don’t have posts like Cambage and Wilson who don’t hesitate to play physical.
The Mystics will play Game 4 on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at Las Vegas. Gametime is to be determined. We will let you know when that’s official.
