The Washington Mystics lost to the Phoenix Mercury, 103-82 on Sunday afternoon.
Though Emma Meesseman scored a season-high 18 points and Elena Delle Donne added 18 more for Washington, Phoenix dominated this game and defeated Washington in every quarter. In fact, they led by as many as 27 at one point.
Like last week, Brittney Griner had another field day on offense, scoring 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting. If these two teams face off in the playoffs, Washington is just going to have to find some way to slow Griner down. What’s even more remarkable about the Mercury’s win today was that they did so with just eight players playing. For Washington, all 11 players played and it just wasn’t enough.
The Mystics’ next game is against the Las Vegas Aces on Monday, Aug. 5. Tipoff is at 10 p.m. ET. This match will be there to finish a Jul. 5 game which was postponed due to an earthquake felt in the area.
