The Washington Mystics cruised through a win at home defeating the New York Liberty, 101-72 on Sunday afternoon. ALL Mystics players scored in this 29-point victory and this was the fifth time Washington scored 100 or more points in a game this season.

Elena Delle Donne led with a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds, followed behind by Tianna Hawkins with 15 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Including Hawkins’ 15 points, Washington’s bench had 50 points.

The Belgian-Cat Emma Meesseman added 14 of her own. Aerial Powers who has been stepping in for the injured Kristi Toliver had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

As for New York, Kia Nurse had a game-high 24 points while Tina Charles and Bria Harley contributed 16 points as well respectively.

The Mystics owned this game from jump as they led 31-14 in the first quarter resulting in a 47-31 halftime lead. A dominant third quarter here Washington outscored the Liberty 29-16 pretty much sealed the game for Washington. Eight of the Mystics’ players shot and made at least one three-pointer, the most coming from Hawkins with three.

Offensively the Mystics dished out the ball all around as they added 30 assists as well.

From this game alone you could, you could probably nickname D.C. “Block City” as the Mystics had seven blocks as a team. Of those seven, three came from LaToya Sanders who finished with eight points and four rebounds in the game. Sanders also eclipsed 200 career blocks!

This win puts the Mystics back in first place in WNBA league standings as well as one win away from tying their franchise record of 22 wins in a season.

The Mystics will finish their homestand on Tuesday, Aug. 27 against the Los Angeles Sparks. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. ET.
