The Washington Mystics defeated the Seattle Storm, 88-59 on Thursday evening at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Congress Heights.

Tianna Hawkins came up big for Washington. She scored all 14 of her points in the first half. They helped the Mystics overcome early deficits and end the half with a 38-35 lead.

Washington began to pull away in the third quarter, but the fourth quarter was just a defensive and offensive clinic. The Mystics went on a 24-4 run while leaving their key contributors in until the game was nearly over.

In most Mystics wins, Elena Delle Donne or Emma Meesseman would come up big. But tonight, both were relatively quiet, though Delle Donne scores her 10th point well into the fourth quarter. She had 14. And Aerial Powers led Washington’s scorers with 16.

Natasha Howard led Seattle’s scorers with 24 but this is a game to forget for Seattle.

The Mystics will travel to Minneapolis and face the Minnesota Lynx on Friday, Aug. 16. Tipoff is at 8 p.m. ET.
