What to Look Out For
Chicago Sky is a sleeper team
In the last meeting, Washington blew out the Sky, 103-85, behind Kristi Toliver’s 19-point game. Since then, Chicago has been 5-1 even beating the top team in the league, the Connecticut Sun. A few teams seemed to start off rocky including the Sky, but Chicago found their own groove and kept it going. The Sky wasn’t one of those teams to be a takeover team especially finishing last season 13-21, 10th overall in the league.
The Sky currently have four players averaging double figures this season: Diamond DeShields, Courtney Vandersloot, Allie Quigley and Cheyenne Parker. They’re the main ones keeping this team afloat and as one of the top three teams in the league.
Keep in mind although Chicago has found their edge, Washington still held the defensive advantage in their last meeting holding Quigley and Vandersloot to a combined five points. That’s been the Mystics’ motive to success throughout the season. Using their defense and capitalizing on it gives Washington the offensive power to take flight. It’s been a while so both teams are different from before especially with players playing overseas.
The biggest factor for Washington is to stay strong winning each quarter and keep the team involved distributing the ball evenly.
