On June 14, 2019, the Washington Mystics held a “media blackout” where they refused to answer questions to reporters about their game against the Seattle Storm which they lost, 74-71.

The media blackout occurred one day after guard Natasha Cloud released several videos on social media requesting for a meeting with D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser and Ward 8 Councilman Trayon White to discuss solutions to gun violence after Hendley Elementary School in SE was struck by three stray bullets in two separate shootings nearby.
