The Mystics beat the Atlanta Dream, 96-75 at their home opener and first game at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Every player scored in the game with Ariel Atkins leading the way with 21 points and four more players scored in double figures.

This game started off the way any Mystics fan would hope. Elena Delle Donne scored the first basket in their new home and would go off for 10 points in the first quarter. Kristi Toliver scored the second basket. And Ariel Atkins was the third Washington player to score. It seems like fate just because the trio were Washington’s key pieces in the 2018 season.

Another thing about this game that we got to see was the implementation of what you could call “40 minutes of Elena or Emma.” The entire first half was played with either Delle Donne or Meesseman. Both scored in their respective ways when they were the focal point of offense on the floor. It was absolutely spectacular.

Atkins showed out with most of her 21 points in the second half and proved why she deserves to be on the floor for long stretches.

Although Delle Donne was the only player to score double digits by the start of the second half, all players who saw the floor did score by the end of the game. From tip-off on, all players were working the ball around and playing unselfishly.

Next Game

The Mystics’ next game is this Wednesday when they play the Chicago Sky at home. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. ET.
