The Mystics’ list of injured players is adding up. Forward Aerial Powers will be out two to four weeks with a left gluteal injury according to a press release. The injury was sustained during the preseason game against the Minnesota Lynx.
Powers will miss the second preseason game along with a few games into the regular season. This is an early loss to the Mystics’ bench that hopefully won’t be detrimental in the long run. Powers was acquired via trade in exchange for Tayler Hill and a second-round draft pick in July 2018.
Powers played nine games averaging 6.1 points per game with Washington last season.
In more Mystics training camp news, Washington’s third-round draft pick out of Louisville, forward Sam Fuehring was waived on Tuesdayas well as former Kentucky Wildcat Maci Morris who was waived on Monday. Hopes were that Fuehring would be able to fit in with the Mystics alongside former college teammate Myisha Hines-Allen. Being able to know where each other is on the court would’ve definitely been a plus.
Washington’s training camp roster is now at 15 players. They will have to get to 12 by the start of the regular season. Unless someone breaks out to take a regular season roster spot, the last remaining cuts could be the remaining training camp invitees.
