The Mystics beat the Seattle Storm 100-77 on Thursday afternoon.
Elena Delle Donne led the way with 30 points and 6 rebounds while LaToya Sanders dropped 17 points and grabbed an impressive 10 rebounds. Seattle’s Natasha Howard and Jewell Loyd led with 15 points each.
Washington is blossoming at the right time of year
It looks like things are finally coming together for the Mystics after starting the season off strong then encountering some midseason struggles. Elena Delle Donne, who has carried the team on her back the entire season, is getting more help from players like Natasha Cloud, Ariel Atkins, and LaToya Sanders as they head into playoffs.
The Mystics have won 19 (one with a forfeit, but still a win) games this season, the most in the Thibault Era since 2013. They haven’t won 20 games since 2010 and are on the brink of doing that if they can just get past Dallas in their next game.
LaToya Sanders dominated the first half
Sanders showed up and showed out today. With 15 points in the first half, she set the tone for her team. Her aggressiveness sparked great plays for herself and her teammates. The Mystics will absolutely benefit from her hustle in the playoffs.
Mystics did a good job containing Seattle’s superstars
In the first half, the Mystics allowed Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart to score 10 points and 8 points respectively. They contained Sue to only 7 points in the first two quarters and she didn’t score the rest of the game. Loyd ended up with 15 points and Breanna followed with 10 points, not making it their best performances. Kudos to Washington’s defense this game.
The Mystics’ next game is on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET when they play the Dallas Wings at home.
