Mystics vs. Mercury final score: Elena Delle Donne puts up 27 points in 84-74 loss

Elena Delle Donne cannot do it all on her own nor should she have to.

WNBA: Washington Mystics at Minnesota Lynx Michael Zamora-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Mercury defeated the Mystics 84-74 on Saturday evening.

Elena Delle Donne led the way for Washington with 27 points and 6 rebounds, while Tayler Hill added 11 points. Phoenix’s Brittney Griner scored a team-high 24 points and DeWanna Bonner followed with 23 points.

The takeaways

Elena Delle Donne carried the team

As usual, Delle Donne put the team on her back. She single handedly kept her team in the game. She put up 27 points and had 13 rebounds.

The Western Conference is a problem

The Mystics are leading the WNBA’s Eastern Conference but it’s the teams out West causing giving them a hard time this season. Tonight’s game was proof. At this point, being number one in the Eastern Conference shouldn’t make Washington feel superior to any team.

Missing: Kristi Toliver

Washington’s success is dependent upon the Toliver’s contributions. The veteran hasn’t showed up consistently this entire season. When she’s putting up numbers, the Mystics are always in greater position to win.

Next Game: The Mystics host the New York Liberty on Thursday, July 5 at 7 p.m. EST.
