Mystics vs. Wings final score: Washington falls at home, 87-83

Stewart W. Small

The Washington Mystics (7-4) lost to the Dallas Wings (5-8) at home this afternoon to notch their fourth loss.

Despite a slow start, the Mystics ended the first quarter up 21-18.

They were up by 13 points at one point, but could not hold on through the fourth quarter. For the Wings, Glory Johnson led the way with 27 points and a 10 of 15 shooting performance while Skylar Diggins-Smith added 19 points and dished 8 assists. For the Mystics, Tayler Hill led the way with 21 points and 4 assists.

The Good News

Tayler Hill continued her hot streak, she scored 21 points on 6 of 14 shooting to lead all scorers today. She also dished four assists for an all around good performance.

Tierra Ruffin-Pratt also added 15 points while Tianna Hawkins scored 13 points off the bench.

Krystal Thomas had this AMAZING shot.

The Bad News

The fourth quarter was the difference in the game. Neither team shot lights out, but the Wings doubled up the Mystics in the rebounding department (10 to 5). They also made five of eight three pointers to get the comeback win. Simply put, the Mystics got beat at their own game of taking and making threes.

Elena Delle Donne had a rough shooting performance, going 4 of 11 from the field for 14 points. That’s going to happen from time to time, so I wouldn’t sweat it too much. The Mystics’ bench besides Hawkins was ineffective. But oddly enough, so was the Wings.’ Ultimately, the Wings’ three point shooting and rebounding in the fourth made the difference today.

Next up

The Mystics will play the Minnesota Lynx this Friday at 8 p.m. on the road.
