Mystics vs. Liberty Game 2 final score: Washington can't stop Tina Charles, loses 86-68

At least it's not their last game of the season.

Well, that was painful. The Mystics lost Game 2 against the New York Liberty at the Verizon Center, 86-68. Tayler Hill led the Mystics with 19 points.

Theme of the game: Tina Charles reminds us she's an Olympian and MVP

Though the Mystics trailed all the way through, the Liberty really put the game away in the third quarter when they outscored the Mystics 26-15. Tina Charles individually outscored the entire Mystics squad 17-15, including hitting a three with Kia Vaughn's hand in her face.

So much for saying that the Mystics needed her to clank away those mid range J's, because ... uh ...

yeah, safe to say she was feelin' it Sunday.

What went wrong?

Many things, but chief among them what we've known all season: The Mystics' offense is not very good. There were flashes -- big threes from Latta, and a short stretch where Tayler Hill looked unstoppable in the second quarter:

The Mystics shot the ball well from three (12-21), but the Liberty swarmed the paint and cut off their passing lanes near the basket. But the Liberty defense looked rejuvenated, largely shutting down Emma Meesseman and disrupting the Mystics' passing lanes.

Unable to move the ball and find cutters the way they are accustomed to, the Mystics didn't know where manufacture points from. New York also took phenomenal care of the ball, turning it over just 6 times (compared to 13 for the Mystics).

And yeah, that blocking foul on Dolson early in the third quarter should have been a charge. Let's hope for some revenge at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.
