As you know, Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s three major teams: the Washington Wizards, Mystics and Capitals are planning to move. The Wizards and Capitals hope to move from Capital One Arena to Alexandria, Va. in 2028. And the Mystics hope to move to Capital One Arena from the Entertainment and Sports Arena by that time as well.

One organization, Don’t Mute DC, is looking to boycott Monumental Sports if the organization doesn’t plan to keep the status quo. A petition on was created, And Don’t Mute DC co-founder Ron Moten planned to have a Go-Go float on Jan. 15, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day near the Entertainment and Sports Arena to protest the changes, n a post by Stephanie Ramirez of WTTG-TV.

Moten was most concerned about the Mystics’ move from ESA, because it would be a step back for Congress Heights and Ward 8, where they play. The ward has historically been underdeveloped compared to areas near downtown and the west.

Monumental Sports responded to the piece where they explained the rationale for the Mystics’ planned move, saying that the growth of the WNBA and women’s sports necessitated it.

Also, the WNBA overall appears to be looking for a more standardized and world-class experience. ESA is too small for that, considering that other teams in smaller markets regularly pack more than 5,000 fans in larger arenas.
