Although the Washington Wizards were the favorites to win todays home game, the Detroit Pistons had other plans as they take the win, 129-117, in Capital One Arena. It was an early matchup on Monday afternoon as well as on MLK Day with a little snow outside on the ground.
The paint opened up a bit for the Pistons during most of the fourth quarter as Wizards center Daniel Gafford left the game with a head injury and didn’t return. He finished with eight points, six rebounds and three assists.
The star for the Pistons came off the bench, Alec Burks, who scored 34 points. Followed behind him was Jaden Ivey (24), Jalen Duren (20) and Isaiah Stewart (16) who combined for 60 points. Duren shot 100 percent from the floor and added 19 rebounds with his 20 points. Rookie Ausar Thompson had 14 points and eight rebounds.
For the Wizards, Tyus Jones scored 22 points, six rebounds and had seven dimes. Kyle Kuzma had 21 points, eight rebounds and four rebounds. Jordan Poole added 16 points of his own.
The Wizards were only home briefly. They go on the road next to New York to face the Knicks before returning back to D.C. for a four-game home stand.
