This is not a typo: the Washington Wizards won against the Atlanta Hawks, 127-99.
And this is also not a typo: this was a true complete win, on the road, for the Wizards.
The first half of this game was all Wizards, all the time as they headed into halftime with a 58-47 lead. Kyle Kuzma scored 22 of his 29 points and Washington held Atlanta to just 30.8 percent shooting. Kuzma was also strong from the three point line (3-of-5 in the first half) with shots after great offensive sequences like this.
It also helped that Trae Young only scored 7 of his 21 points on 2-of-9 shooting in the first half, 6-of-19 overall.
As Wizards fans this season, we of course held our breath as the game headed into the third quarter. But Washington kept the pressure and expanded the lead. Even Jordan Poole got going and scored 20 points total. Washington didn’t have to play their starters in the fourth quarter either. Awesome sauce!
Ultimately, tonight was the Wizards’ night and they took advantage of the Hawks who were clearly out of it after playing last night.
The Wizards’ next game is on Monday against the Detroit Pistons for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Tip off is at 3 p.m ET. See you then.
