Well folks this is not the news we wanted to hear late in the season but Washington Mystics General Manager and Head Coach Mike Thibault has tested positive for COVID-19. The team made the announcement earlier today.

Associate Coach, Eric Thibault, will take over coaching for the final two games of the season as Thibault enters the health and safety protocols of the WNBA. Those final two games are against the New York Liberty on Friday and the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday.

This news comes at a crucial time as the Mystics need to beat the Liberty on Friday to hold onto the eighth and final spot in the playoffs. A loss will most likely send them packing which will be very disappointing.

Thibault is not able to return until he clears WNBA protocols. The playoffs start on September 23 and the Mystics will hopefully have Thibault back in time for that if Washington secures a playoff berth.

Prayers are definitely up for Coach Thibault and his family.
