Echenique averaged 7.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game for Washington in their 2021 Summer League campaign where he played in all four games and earned two starts.
Before coming to the Wizards, Echenique played for Gipuzkoa Basket in La Liga ACB in Spain for the 2020-21 season. Unfortunately during his time in Spain, Gipuzkoa Basket was last place in La Liga and was relegated to the second league on the Spanish basketball pyramid this year. He played college basketball at Wichita State from 2018-20 where he averaged 11.3 points and 7.1 rebounds in his senior season.
On an Exhibit 10 contract, Echenique will be invited to training camp this fall and allow the Wizards to put him on the Capital City Go-Go G-League affiliate. He could get a $50,000 if he plays for the Go-Go for at least 60 calendar days. Alternatively, he could be signed to a two-way contract before the regular season or he could be released, also before the regular season.
