On Thursday evening, Russell Westbrook thanked Washington Wizards fans in an Instagram post. He was traded from Washington to the Los Angeles Lakers as part of a draft day deal.

His entire post can be read below.

If you cannot read his message, it is quoted below.

Thank you DC! You welcomed my family and I with open arms from day one. Everyone from the front office, to the training staff, the coaches, my teammates, and the fans. I’m grateful y’all took a chance on me and supported me every step of the way. I’m blessed to have been a part of such a stand up organization. It didn’t take long to make a home in DC, and I will forever be grateful and appreciative of my experience with the organization. Thank you! #thedistrict

I am a little sad that the Wizards parted ways with him so soon, but am thankful that his contributions helped Washington get to a playoff berth this past season. It also allowed the Wizards to get more assets who could help Washington on the court and/or a future trade down the road considering how well Westbrook played.

THANK YOU RUSSELL WESTBROOK FOR REP’ING THE DISTRICT!
