The bad news for the USA Basketball men’s national team keeps on coming beyond losses to other better-prepared teams. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal is in COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Based on this report, it’s likely that Beal tested positive for the coronavirus or had close contact to someone else who did. Beal was in coronavirus protocols earlier this season in early January before a team-wide outbreak forced the Wizards out of action for two weeks. Beal was not among the players who tested positive at that time, however.

If Beal has the coronavirus, we hope he gets well soon and that he doesn’t get serious complications. While he is certainly in very good physical shape, we just can’t predict what it will do to anyone. And even if Beal is vaccinated against the coronavirus, there is still a chance that he can still get affected by it.

Regardless, we hope that Beal is alright and gets well soon. It is unclear when and/or whether he can return to play for the USA Basketball men’s national team.
