Washington Mystics guard and activist Natasha Cloud just became the first WNBA player to have a PE (Player Exclusive) shoe with Converse. The 29 year-old’s All Star BB Evo“Petal to the Metal” PE was released today.

The shoe was inspired by Cloud’s rose tattoo, which “symbolizes her ability to bloom bravely in all areas of her life”, according to Converse. “With strength and integrity she uses her voice both on and off the court to inspire change,” the shoe company added.

The shoe features a Pink Foam, Chambray Blue and Spring Green colorway.

Last year, the WNBA champion was the first WNBA player to join the Converse Hoops roster. When Cloud opted out of the 2020 WNBA season to focus on social justice reform, the shoe company covered her lost wages.

Converse detailed four reasons why consumers should buy Cloud’s “Petal to the Metal” PE shoe:

  • Rose graphic and aesthetic inspired by Natasha’s rose tattoo.
  • Innovative rail lace system with TPU and poly thread allows for a custom fit lace lockdown.
  • 5/8 ankle height wraps ankle and Achilles for added support.
  • Drop-in midsole is made with Nike React foam and a layer of cushion foam for additional comfort.

On Thursday morning, Cloud posted an image on Instagram of herself dribbling while wearing the new shoe. In the caption, Cloud expressed how “blessed” she felt to introduce her first PE and she revealed the significance of the rose to her. “A tribute to my beautiful wife (Aleshia Ocasio) and our love,” Cloud wrote. “And ME. A rose that flourished despite the odds.”

The shoe retails at $120.
