Pregame notes
The Washington Mystics (0-1) remain at home welcoming the Phoenix Mercury (1-1) and looking to not continue the season on a bad note. Mystics were blown out by the Chicago Sky in their season opener on Saturday, 70-56. The way Washington played it seemed like they couldn’t get any of their shots to fall as they shot poorly as a unit.
Phoenix is the team that holds the White Mamba herself, Diana Taurasi as well as Skylar Diggins-Smith and Brittney Griner. If the Mystics want any chance of winning they’ll have to revert back to the team we know they can be. With Elena Delle Donne still out, someone has to step up besides Tina Charles.
We know the Mystics have started off the season on a bad note and picked up the pace later, for example the 2019 championship season. But it’s tough with Delle Donne out and Emma Meesseman out as well with overseas commitments; two key players that clearly are needed.
If Washington doesn’t get going soon it’s going to be a quick and brutal season.
