Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura is currently on a team approved absence for personal reasons. According to Quinton Mayo last week, the absence is because he wanted to focus on his mental health.
Wizards F Rui Hachimura informed the team and coaching staff via text last week that he’d be absent from the beginning of training camp.

Hachimura is using the time to address his mental health, per sources.
Mayo also tweeted yesterday that Hachimura unfollowed every Instagram account, except for the Black Samurai clothing brand that he is part of. This also seemed to have happened at around the same time when he decided to take his leave of absence, based on a Reddit thread.
It looks like Wizards F Rui Hachimura has unfollowed everyone on Instagram (other than his apparel page “Black Samurai”).

Hachimura hasn’t done the same on his Twitter account, and it doesn’t seem like this is a slight on the Wizards.
Hachimura has had a grueling last 12 months where he basically played year round. This isn’t just for the Wizards’ 2020-21 season where they made the playoffs. He also played for the Japan men’s national basketball team in the Olympics this past summer.
There is no timetable on when Hachimura will return, but hopefully he takes the time he needs before returning this season.
