This would have been the ultimate Dinwiddie revenge game...except that Dinwiddie scored 10 points on 3 for 13 shooting and was a shadow of the guy who beat the Pacers a couple nights ago. And so, Dinwiddie will have to wait for revenge — the Wizards lost to the Brooklyn Nets, 104-90.
Ultimately, the Wizards just didn’t have a 3-0 start to the season in them and were knocked out in a first quarter where the Nets scored at will to take a commanding 38-20 lead. The Nets never let that lead drop to single digits.
The team shot poorly from deep, going 9-39 — 23%. Beal let it fly with 13 attempts but connected only on 3. Kuzma, after good shooting to start the season went 0-for-5. Avdija was 0-for-4 (though he did record a team high 7 rebounds in just 19 minutes). Harrell also had 7 rebounds in 21 minutes to go along with 10 points. Bertans missed both his three-point attempts.
On the bright side, even while shooting so poorly, the Wiz lost by a mere 14 points 104-90. In other words, keeping the offensive oriented Nets to just 104 points and 28% from deep (just 42% from the field) is an achievement, even in a losing effort.
Wizards’ fans are going to have to buckle up for a long, up-and-down season. But at least based on the small sample size of the first 3 games, it seems that it will be more fun to watch then the last two seasons.
