The Washington Wizards will host their home opener today against the Indiana Pacers. If you are going to the game tonight, go to section 111 and you will see a new shrine in honor of the late Wes Unseld, the GOAT in Wizards franchise history. During his player career, Unseld won an MVP and Rookie of the Year award in the same season (1968-69), five All-Star Game appearances and a championship in 1978 with Washington. Unseld would later become the then-Bullets’ head coach and General Manager.

Yesterday, the team released Unseld’s bust in a ceremony by Monumental Sports & Entertainment Founder, Chairman and CEO Ted Leonsis along with Unseld’s wife, Connie, daughter, Kim, and son Wes Unseld, Jr., the Wizards’ current head coach.

The bust is made of bronze and weighs about 90 pounds, designed by J. Brent Gill.

Congratulations to Unseld’s family for getting an opportunity to see this honor. Check out the bust next time you see a Wizards or Capitals game this winter!
