On Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Amber Nichols was named the Capital City Go-Go’s General Manager. She was previously the team’s assistant GM and replaces Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who left to pursue other opportunities.
The Washington Wizards are promoting Amber Nichols to GM of the franchise’s G-League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go, sources tell ESPN. Nichols was assistant GM, and now becomes second female GM in G League.

The move makes Nichols the second female GM of a G-League team. The first was Tori Miller of the CP Skyhawks, the Atlanta Hawks’ affiliate.
Nichols has been a rising star in the G-League ranks where she was part of the Go-Go’s front office since their first season in 2018-19. She was also an intern for the Wizards and Sacramento Kings. Nichols played college basketball at the University of Richmond from 2010-14.
Nichols also has a family connection with a famous recent Wizards player. John Wall is her cousin and they played basketball as children on a “basket nailed to a tree,” according to an interview she gave in 2010 when she was in high school and during Wall’s college season at Kentucky.
The Go-Go is not participating in the 2021 G-League season which will be in a bubble this season. Players however are in a flex arrangement to play for the Erie BayHawks, the affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans. The G League will begin play in February at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.
Congratulations to GM Nichols for the promotion!
