On Wednesday evening, the Washington Wizards announced that their game against the Detroit Pistons on Friday, Jan. 15 is postponed due to the fact that they don’t have eight players available to play due to players remaining under coronavirus protocols.

This is the second consecutive game that the Wizards will miss due to player absences from the coronavirus. It is unknown how many Wizards players and/or coaches have the coronavirus. But at a minimum, at least half of the team either is a close contact and/or has tested positive for the coronavirus at this time.
There were rumors this week that the Wizards are suspected to be the source of several coronavirus outbreaks or coronavirus scares for other teams in the last few days. Again, since we aren’t epidemiologists, we cannot make that supposition. But it wouldn’t be a surprise if this ends up being the case.
However, the bottom line is that the Wizards are currently affected by the coronavirus in some way at the present time. It’s difficult to say how many players are affected by the coronavirus in a direct way at this time since the team or other reporters or players haven’t disclosed whether they have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last several days.
We’ll update as we learn more.
