The Washington Mystics announced Thursday that they have signed Stella Johnson. The WNBA issued the Mystics an emergency hardship after Aerial Powers suffered a hamstring injury on Aug. 7 against the Liberty.

Johnson was selected by 29th overall by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2020 WNBA Draft and then was signed by the Chicago Sky in June. After playing in four games, the guard was waived. Now, she has an opportunity to help the Mystics, who are struggling. The team has lost their last five game and are currently 3-5 for the season.

Before being drafted, Johnson had exceptional college basketball career at Rider University. In her senior season, she led the NCAA in scoring with almost 25 points per game. Johnson is Rider’s women’s basketball all-time leading scorer, the program’s first ever All-American and the only Bronc to be drafted into the league. Additionally, she was named MAAC Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019.

According to the Mystics press release, Johnson will be available for tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN.
