Washington Wizards star John Wall announced his 202 Assist program raised over $540K Wednesday afternoon. The 4-week fundraiser was established to help provide rent relief for Ward 8 families in Washington, D.C during the coronavirus pandemic. Wall teamed up with DC-based nonprofit organizations Housing Counseling Services and Lydia’s House.

In a statement on the fundraiser’s site, Wall referred to Ward 8 as his “second home.” “The Ward 8 community is special to me,” he wrote. “It is where I train and practice with my teammates. It’s also where I get to work with the families of Bright Beginnings on so many special events.”

The fundraiser’s initial goal was $300K.
