DC has options in Free Agency and the Draft

Unrestricted free agent point guards, shooting guards, small forwards, power forwards and centers DC can take a look at.

Point Guards are Dragic, Teague, Napier, Reggie Jackson, Mudiay, Payton 2.

Dragic, Teague and Napier don't want to sit behind Wall. Payton has the best defense out of the three remaining so DC should resign Payton. Payton would be valuable at end of quarter situations or give a change of pace if an opponent is scoring at will. It would be great if DC could bring back Napier but it would be hard to get him to sign.

PG answer: Resign Payton

Shooting guards are Holiday, Bazemore, Burks, Robinson 3, Lee, Galloway, Harris, Moore.

None of these guys would be Beal's backup because it would be a death sentence for their careers. They would never play. This is ok becuase DC made the trade to get Jerome Robinson who has the reverse problem of most players on the team. Robinson can defend and rebound but has way to go on offense.

SG answer None

Small Forwards are Melo, Crowder, Jones Jr, Harkless, Turner, Kidd-Gilchrist

Some small forwards can definitely be had for cheap near the minimum. With the young guys DC has I would rather add a 1st round pick then add one of these.

SF answer None

Power Forwards are Bertans, Gallinari, Marcus Morris, Harrell, Millsap, Marvin Williams, Patterson

Bertans should be brought back. The others don't want to be stuck behind Hachimura and Bertans. Patterson might be interested to play with his old college buddy Wall and be a 3rd string. At the end of the day DC can address 3rd string with a 2nd round pick.

PF answer: Resign Bertans

Centers are Whiteside, Thompson, Gasol, Baynes, Biyombo, Noel, Len, Plumlee

Whiteside and Thomspon are too expensive. Gasol, Baynes are older. Out of the last four Noel is first in steals and blocks. Noel like the Payton have defense that DC could use off the bench.

C answer: Sign Nerlens Noel

Draft Devin Vassell and Malik Fitts in the 1st and 2nd rounds.

Vassell can start at the small forward. He can switch with Beal sometimes if Beal has a tough match up. Ariza and Otto would do that for Beal almost all of Beal's career. Bonga and Brown try to help Beal now. Both Bonga and Brown have average to good defense but Vassell can bring another level. Vassell can also shoot well now.

Malik Fitts is ready to play in the NBA today off the bench. Fitts has offense of a 3 but can defend 4's better than 3's. He can score and rebound with the best of them in college. Fitts is a good insurance policy in case either Hachimura or Bertans get injured.

Salary cap implications works out. Wall, Smith, Beal, Robinson, Brown, Bonga, Schofield, Hachimura, Bryant, Pasceniks and Wagner total 103 million.

Payton is 1 million, Mathews is 1 million, Vassell is 4 million, Bertans is 14 million, Fitts is 1 million, Noel is 7 million.

103 plus 28 equals 131 million. 131 is below the 139 million luxury tax cap for the season. Even if the luxury tax is adjusted down to 135 DC is good to go with this roster.

Wall / Smith / Payton

Beal / Robinson / Mathews

Vassell / Brown / Bonga / Schofield

Hachimura / Bertans / Fitts

Bryant / Noel / Pasceniks / Wagner

Players who did not start the 19 season or play much who could help in 20

Wall, Vassell, Fitts, Noel, Payton, Robinson, Mathews and Pasceniks could make DC a contender.
