Marcin Gortat has officially retired from the NBA

The NBA center played for the Wizards from 2013-18.

Washington Wizards v Toronto Raptors - Game One
Marcin Gortat played five seasons with the Washington Wizards and was part of their playoff runs in the 2010s.

Marcin Gortat has officially retired, according to an interview with Polish site TVPinfo. Gortat played in the NBA from 2007-19 for the Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Clippers.

Gortat’s best years were in Washington, where he played from 2013-18. He was a consistent scorer and rebounder, John Wall’s pick-and-roll partner, and part of each of Washington’s four playoff runs of the 2010s.

I wrote a lot more about Gortat’s time in Washington in a Polish Heritage Week series back in 2018. Click on the link below to read.

The news wasn’t entirely unexpected because Gortat hasn’t played in the NBA since getting waived by the Clippers in the middle of last season. But I still feel a little sad that the Polish Machine won’t be suiting up anymore.

Dziękuję Ci, Marcin!
