Deni Avdija has a perfect start to his Wizards and NBA preseason debut

The rookie forward scored 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday.

The Washington Wizards lost to the Brooklyn Nets, 119-114 last night in their NBA preseason debut. Despite the loss, it was still a good day for Deni Avdija as he scored 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting, including three three-pointers.

I get it. Many NBA rookies can have a perfect shooting day in their debut. But if it’s a 1-of-1 or 2-of-2 shooting performance in garbage time, then I can understand why some may not consider it a significant thing.

But in Avdija’s case, he scored 15 points and shot the ball six times. He made ALL three of his three pointers with a line that’s a little further behind the line for FIBA, WNBA and NCAA men’s basketball. It’s one thing to make NBA length threes in practice. It’s a different ballgame when he’s making these threes in games against other teams.

Avdija and the Wizards will be back on Thursday on Dec. 17 when they host the Detroit Pistons at home. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. ET.
