The NBPA player union reps are likely to agree to start the 2020-21 season on Dec. 22, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst of ESPN. Meetings will be held Thursday with an agreement expected soon after that. This is not surprising news, though some players, especially those on teams that played in the Finals last October are not pleased.
If the season starts on Dec. 22, training camp will likely begin in early December. The NBA Draft is scheduled for Nov. 18 and free agency is expected to be held in the dates soon after that.
Also, given that the NBA wants to start the season in late December, games are expected to be played in home markets, but fans aren’t expected to be allowed in arenas due to the coronavirus pandemic. The United States reported over 100,000 cases on Wednesday, and the situation will likely be worse in December given that the country is in the middle of a fall surge.
