The Wizards and Pistons had an “exploratory call” about a John Wall for Blake Griffin swap, according to report

The teams didn’t get far in initial talks, and it’s hard to see Griffin on the Wizards unless Rui Hachimura also got traded.

Depending on who you believe, John Wall may be trying to leave the Washington Wizards. And the Wizards, at least officially, aren’t aware of him wanting to leave yet.

But the Wizards did RECEIVE a call about the possibility of trading him recently. And it didn’t work out.

According to Zach Lowe of ESPN (Insider subscription required), the Wizards had an “exploratory call” with the Detroit Pistons about a package that would involve trading Wall for Blake Griffin, but talks didn’t go far. Quotes of Lowe’s analysis were on many sites, including NBC Sports Washington earlier this week.

As Mike DePrisco, the writer of the NBC Sports Washington article noted, the chances of a Wall for Griffin trade are remote at best. Wall has a longer contract than Griffin, so the Wizards will likely have to trade draft picks or other players. But, they also have Rui Hachimura, their first round draft pick from 2019. So it’s going to be difficult to see how they would work out on the court together.

While it’s possible (if not likely) that Wall or Bradley Beal will be traded in the coming months, I just don’t see this specifically deal happening.
