NBA.com released their latest Consensus Mock Draft and had the Wizards selecting USC Trojan Onyeka Okongwu with the No. 9 pick.

Okongwu is thought to be one of the first big men to come off the board in this year’s draft. ESPN.com Mock Draft, which was one of the Mock Drafts used to compile this draft list, had Okongwu being picked as high as number 6 by the Atlanta Hawks.

The other team listed by the Mock Drafts as selecting Okongwu is the Detroit Pistons at the number 7 pick, who also were mocked to draft Killian Hayes and Tyrese Haliburton. Hayes and Okongwu were mocked by 3 publications each to go to the Pistons, so it’s possible that Okongwu could absolutely be in play to go sooner than the Wizards pick.

With that said, if Okongwu drops, I would imagine the Wizards would be thrilled to get the 6’9” big man without having to trade up. Here goes some comments about Okongwu:

Do-it-all big with rare versatility as a defender. Always competes and has a knack for making big plays.

This would be a major Washington win if Okongwu slips this far; I’d say this is as far as he can drop, with his highest range being No. 3 or 4. He’s a defensive menace who can defend from post to perimeter and does everything around the rim on both ends of the floor in ways that neither Mo Wagner or Thomas Bryant can.

Other players that were mocked to the Wizards include Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, Precious Achiuwa, and Issac Okoro. At this point, would you be excited to see the Wizards select Okongwu with the number 9 pick or would you like to see someone else at that pick?
