On Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the Wizards acquired Davis Bertans from the San Antonio Spurs with a trade exception. Bertans will make $7 million in the 2019-20 season.
Spurs are finalizing a trade to send F Davis Bertans to the Wizards, league sources tell ESPN. Bertans will be absorbed into an exception, allowing Spurs to complete deal for DeMarre Carroll.

The trade for the Latvian forward appears to be made to address their need for a post who can make threes reliably. Bertans averaged 8.0 points per game for San Antonio last season and made 42.9 percent of his three-point shots (145-of-338 attempts).
For the Spurs, they were looking to acquire DeMarre Carroll, as Wojnarowski noted. So Washington once again played as a facilitator in a larger trade while not giving up too many assets.
I don’t see this trade negatively affecting rookie Rui Hachimura. But perhaps Bertans could start right away while Hachimura gets acclimated to the NBA style of play.
