The Wizards have remained adamant about keeping Bradley Beal. But given Washington’s unclear short and medium-term future, they are resorting to more drastic measures.
Ben Standig of NBC Sports Washington reported that the Wizards and Pelicans were in discussions that involve Beal. Perhaps the trade could involve some of the assets New Orleans will receive in the proposed Anthony Davis trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, which includes the fourth overall pick in the 2019 Draft, several young players like Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball and future first round picks.
For the Wizards, trading Beal now is a way to “cash in” on their best active player and kickstart a rebuild. Like I said on June 12, Beal’s value has risen since Warriors forward Kevin Durant ruptured his right Achilles in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
But for the Pelicans, trading for Beal also allows them to kickstart a period of contention. Beal would be paired up with the No. 1 overall pick who is almost definitely Duke forward Zion Williamson. That duo could be very fun to watch indeed if it comes to fruition.
What do you think of the possibility of Beal going to the Pelicans? Let us know in the comments below.
