Thunder VP Troy Weaver to interview with Wizards this week

NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder at Dallas Mavericks Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

D.C. native Troy Weaver will interview with the Wizards for their President of Basketball Operations position this week, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Weaver is the Thunder’s Vice President of Basketball Operations under Sam Presti. He’s been with the team since 2008 and assists Presti with player development and basketball operations. If Washington tears it all down to recreate the Thunder’s path to success, Weaver would be an excellent place to start. It’s also worth noting he has prior experience with Wizards head coach Scott Brooks from their days with the Thunder.

He fits right in line with the other two external candidates the Wizards are interviewing this week: Danny Ferry and Gersson Rosas. They all have deep ties to innovative, well-run organizations that can provide a blueprint for how Washington can put together a contender in the Eastern Conference. We’ll find out soon enough whether the team embraces a new direction or tries to recreate themselves from the inside out by keeping Tommy Sheppard, their interim president.
