The Wizards play the Timberwolves at 6 p.m. ET in Capital One Arena. Watch the game on NBC Sports Washington. Listen to it on Federal News Radio 1500 AM or the Wizards Mobile App.
This is the first time that Ryan Saunders will come to Capital One Arena as an NBA head coach. Granted, he is serving in an interim capacity, but he is one of the rising young coaches in the league and he’s managed to hold the fort. Since he took over this season, Minnesota has gone 10-12. They probably won’t make the playoffs this season, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him stay there on a permanent basis next season.
Also, coming to Washington will be like a homecoming for Saunders. He was an assistant coach for the Wizards from 2009-14 on the late Flip Saunders’ (2009-12) and Randy Wittman’s (2012-14) staffs before going to Minnesota. Flip Saunders is Ryan’s dad.
Though it will be interesting to see how Saunders will do as an NBA head coach over the long term, it’s time for the Wizards to make the most out of this game. Go D.C.
