Go get ‘em, Sato!!!
UPDATE on Mar. 17 — When are the games?
Here are the dates for the Czech Republic’s group stage games in the FIBA World Cup.
- Sunday, Sept. 1 vs. United States
- Tuesday, Sept. 3 vs. Japan
- Thursday, Sept. 5 vs. Turkey
All game times are to be determined.
What if the Czechs are first or second in Group E?
After the group stage, if the Czechs are first or second, they will then play in a second round four-team group called Group K. This group will feature the top two teams in Group F. Those four teams are Greece, New Zealand, Brazil and Montenegro.
There are only two games in this round, but the Czechs would only play two additional games against the Top-two teams in Group F. They won’t play the other advancing team from Group E because they met already. These games will be on Saturday, Sept. 7 and Monday Sept. 9.
If the Czechs are in the top two of Group K which includes their Group E record, then they go into the quarterfinals which are on Tuesday Sept. 10 or Wednesday Sept. 11. The semifinals are on Friday Sept. 13 and the medal games are on Sunday Sept. 15. Even if the Czechs lose in the quarterfinals, they will still play in a tournament for fifth-place. That’s to determine FIBA rankings and standing for the Olympics or EuroBasket.
What if the Czechs are third or fourth in Group E?
If the Czechs are third or fourth in Group E, they will play two more games in Group O where they would play the bottom two teams in Group F. From there the Czechs will be ranked based on their record.
