It’s safe to say that John Wall has had a rough last couple of years on many fronts. He has missed many games due to various injuries and will probably sit out this season as he rehabs from an Achilles injury. His mother was recently diagnosed with cancer though thankfully, she is bouncing back.

The news isn’t getting much better with the Washington Wizards guard since he is losing endorsements.

According to multiple reports, including Nick DePaula of ESPN, Wall and Adidas are negotiating a buyout to his shoe contract. That deal is worth a total of $25 million over five years.

The reasoning behind the possible buyout is rather simple. It’s a case of “What have you done for me lately?” from Adidas’ perspective. Since signing the contract in January 2018, he hasn’t been on the court most of the time when he would be wearing their shoes. That limits his opportunity to be out in the spotlight.

Though Wall is probably seeing his days with Adidas come to an end, he isn’t short on money. He’s in the first year of a four-year, $170 million supermax contract. And Wall has embraced being on the “outside looking in” when it comes to apparel. between 2015 and January 2018, he was a sneaker free agent where he generally wore Nike shoes.

At the end of the day, it’s most important to see Wall come back healthy. From there, the contracts will take care of themselves.
