Who do you think we should pick in the draft?

(This is from posts made in an earlier thread)

The Wizards, according to Fivethirtyeight.com, currently have a 44% chance of missing the playoffs. If we end up finishing with the 9th worst record we would most likely pick 9th: Here are odds for picking at different positions, and players who we might pick.

pick 9th (50.7% chance) Keldon Johnson/Romeo Langford
pick 10th (25.8% chance Sekou Doumboya/DeAndre Hunter
top 4 (20.2%)
pick 4th (5.7%) Nassir Little
pick 3rd (5.2%) Ja Morant/Cam Reddish
pick 2nd (4.8%) RJ Barrett
pick 1 (4.5%) ZION!!!

The first names listed above are Jonathan Givony’s latest from Jan 7th.
The second names listed above are from an aggregate mock of 18 different drafts:https://www.reddit.com/r/NBA_Draft/comments/a6eq34/nba_draft_2019_mock_aggregate_v10_december_edition/

The type of players I want are 1. Good defenders 2. Willing to share the ball 3. Good shooters 4. Tough minded 5. Athletic

Obviously if John Wall is on the team next fall, (and he probably will be) we have are fairly set at PG. But for arguments sake, let's say somehow we move Wall, and don't bring back Kieff. Bryant gets resigned, as does Satoransky. I would like to bring back Ariza at the right price. Possibly Jeff Green. Possibly Dekker. Randle as 3rd string PG.

C Bryant Mahinmi
PF Porter Green

SF Ariza Brown

SG Beal (we could definitely use a scorer off the bench to back up beal)

PG Sato Brown (I would like to see Brown be primary backup at point, and spend time at the 2 and 3 as well)

If we got a top 4 pick:

Obviously Zion would slot in perfect at PF (Otto would start at the 3, put play minutes at backup 4 and Zion would play some small ball C as well.

Barrett would be an interesting fit. Pro’s: Good defensively, and an alpha, Con’s: efficiency and poor 3pt and FT shooter. A let down as a Zion consolation prize, to be sure.

Ja Morant, your John Wall replacement. Great defensively, athletically, passer, shooter. He’d be second on my board over Zion (and assuming a John Wall trade)

Nassir Little, Athletic, defender, tough, good intangibles. MAYBE take him over Barrett as well. (for our team). (I wonder how he would fit on our team)

If we pick late lottery or just outside of it.

Keldon Johnson, 6’6" SF, KY Pros: toughness, defense, feel for the game shooting (.392 3P%), Weakness: Length (only 6’9") Fit: scorer off the bench on the wing

Sekou Doumboya 6’9 PF Pros physical profile, Weaknesses: limited feel for game, lack of focus, shooting, fluctuating effort, AVOID

Kevin Porter, 6’6" SG Pros: Athleticism, skill, high upside Cons: Defense, inconsistent effort, shooting (.538 FT%), Low floor AVOID

Jaxson Hayes 6’11 C Pros: Athleticism, Length (7’3 wingspan), good defender, shot blocker CONS: raw offensively, foul prone
(Hayes is a later bloomer, was a 6’ tall as a freshman, only averaged 6 minutes and less than 2 points a game as a junior for his high school team that made it to the state championship, good pedigree as father played 12 years as NFL tight end and is coach tight end coach for the Bengals, while his mother played college basketball at Drake and averaged 52 ppg as a high school senior. Jaxson focused on football and was a 6’7 wide receiver, but quit basketball and joined his first AAU team after his junior year. His first tournament ever he pinned a Zion Williamson dunk attempt to the backboard! Fit: backup for Bryant

Bol Bol 7’2 C Pros: Length (7’6 wingspan), soft hands and touch, good shooter (52% from 3) Con’s: thin, high center of gravity, toughness, effort, questionable drive, out for rest of season due to stress fracture in foot, Fit: backup for Bryant

DeAndre Hunter 6’8 Pros: Length (7’2 wingspan), shooting (.433 3pt%), defense, Cons: not an elite athlete, old for his class (21 now) Fit: Hunter would be a great Jeff Green or Ariza replacement

Rui Hachimura 6’9 Pros: Length (7’2 wingspan), shooting potential (.455 3pt%) defense Cons: Shooting (only 19% as a sophomore), not much of a passer, assertiveness/consistency Fit: Hachimura will also be a good Green/Ariza replacement, though he probably won’t be a volume 3pt shooter anytime soon. Will be interesting to compare Hachimura and Hunters careers as they seem to be similar players. Hachimura, though a junior, is a bit younger that Hunter

Jontay Porter 6’11.5 Pros: see Rooks awesome write-up from last year. https://www.bulletsforever.com/2018/5/22/17245828/2018-nba-draft-prospect-profile-jontay-porter Cons: tore ACL before season began, wingspan only 7’ Fit: backup at PF and C positions. I’d be pretty happy with Porter, which means he’ll be available when we pick and EG will pick some guard 5’8 guard from Greenland we’ve never heard of.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker 6’5 SG, Pros: Shooting (career .404 from 3 on 4 attempts/gm) defense, facilitator. Con’s: none that I can see. He’s a Baby Beal: "He always wants to do right by the team," senior point guard Justin Robinson said. "He’s a perfectionist. He works out a lot, and he wants to be the best version of himself he can possibly be." "As a freshman you’re more focused on not messing up, doing your job," Alexander-Walker said. "As you progress and as you get older, your mode changes and you gain a focus more based on, ‘How can I pick up other guys up. How can I lead? How can I become more effective in more than one role.’ " https://www.richmond.com/sports/college/schools/virginia-tech/with-an-nba-future-ahead-of-him-virginia-tech-s/article_a78e31ce-49e2-5684-a434-0538056a5e39.html He also cousin of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

PJ Washington: 6’8 F Pros: rebounding, length (7’3 wingspan), build Weakness: developing shooter 36% 3 as a sophomore, poor defensive awareness. Fit: AVOIDdue to defensive awareness – I don’t want another Oubre

KZ Okpala: 6’9 F Pros: shooting (.455% from 3 on 3 shots/game, though only shot .226% as a freshman), defensive awareness, freethrow rate (6 attempts game) Cons: athleticism KZ was a 5-10 Freshman PG in high school before his growth spurt. I get a Kyle Kuzma vibe from him, both Pac-10 players, similar size, similar draft position. I think Okpala could be really good. Fit: Ariza/Green replacement.

Luguentz Dort: 6’5 SG Pros: Frame – 224 lbs, aggressiveness – 6.8 FT’s/game, defense – 1.6 steals Cons: efficiency, raw, shooting: .393 fg%, .301 3pt%, 5 rebounds/game as a guard. Fit: Dort has a high ceiling, but would probably be better served returning to school. AVOID

Daniel Gafford: 6’11 C Pros: rebounding, shot blocking, Cons – Free Throw Shooting: 59%, Fit: backup center. Would work for Wizards, but other C’s I’d rather take before him.
