If each basketball season is like a presidential term, then media day is the inaugural address. It’s a chance for everyone to lay out their objectives and ambitions, which will shape the narrative around them for the rest of the campaign.

Considering what the Wizards endured last season, and the changes they made this summer in an attempt to rectify that that, this year’s media day should be particularly interesting. This roster is full of players who aren’t afraid to set a high bar for themselves, so we’ll learn a lot about how the team sees itself going into what could be a make-or-break season for this core.

Don’t forget players who keep things close to the vest can make statements of their own at media day, even if they don’t say much. If Otto Porter shows up with 15 extra pounds of muscle, that’s a big story. If Markieff Morris shows up with a handlebar mustache that’s ... unusual, but also a story.
