United States vs. Senegal final score: Elena Delle Donne dominates in 87-67 win

Team USA was a little sluggish to start in their contest against Senegal. But then EDD happened.

The United States is 1-0 in Group C play in the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup after an 87-67 win over Senegal on Saturday evening.

Elena Delle Donne led the Americans with a 19 point performance on 8-of-10 shooting. Nneka Ogwumike added 16 points and shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the field, but I’ll just let Delle Donne’s highlight reel above tell you who ran the show. Delle Donne came off the bench for Team USA in this win. Team USA is so deep to the point where they don’t even have to have their best power forward starting for them!

The only bad part about Delle Donne’s highlights was that she looked great out there. I wish we could have seen her at full strength during the WNBA Finals.

Before I get too carried away, the Americans weren’t flawless. Diana Taurasi had an off day and the first quarter was their “adjustment period.” The Senegalese started the game with a quick 10-4 lead, but the Americans came back and finished the quarter with an 18-17 lead. From there, it was basically all USA, especially in the second quarter. For Team Senegal, Oumoul Khairy Sarr led with 18 points.

Team USA is back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. EST against China. China is 1-0 in Group C after beating Latvia 64-61 on Saturday.
